i have a 1985 1/2 ton 4x4 gmc diesel that has a 6.2 liter engine, and it is very hard to start. it has no power or speed, and black smoke rolls from the pipes all the time. it has set for 4 years, and i just got it running. i bled all of the lines and changed all of the filters. i have to 24 volt it everytime i want to start it and i have to use eather or starting fluid. can somebody please give some suggestions on what to do. if you have any wiring diagrams, that would also be very helpful. the notches on the injector pump are lined up. the motor had been dropped down the truck and it is not correct. thank you very much for all help that i can get.

Wont hurt to put fresh fuel in,and some diesel fuel conditioner/cleaner in it also...the post about the glow plugs and starter is right on too,a 6.2 will never start without a good fast cranking speed and all the glow plugs working--I'd also change the fuel filter after running the diesel fuel treatment, and make certain no hoses are leaking or cracked between the fuel tank and the injector pump..the "lift" pump can cause hard starting too,its on the passenger side of the block, same spot as a 350 gas motor...I'd avoid using starting fluid, even if you disable the glow plugs,it can crack pistons and do other nasty stuff....
