Plug it in when blow freezing. A cold frosty deisel "WILL NOT START".
Make sure block heater is working by listening for the spark when the cord ends come together.
I learned this the hard way too,so be carfull useing ether. PISTON RINGS CRACK REAL EASY IF TOO MUCH IS USED. The explosive forces of the ether are too great for them.
All the smoke you see is all the unburnt fuel in the exhaust from all the non-starts.
