I bought a 1998 boat with twin Cat 3116TA last year and put 175 hours on them and they now have a total of about 800 hours. They are 350hp each. I gave the engine numbers to the Cat rep and he said that some of these engines had a soft block problem but my engines did not have this problem. Does anyone have any comments about this engine. The surveyor " D. Pascoe" wrote up this engine as one to avoid. They are running fine but I should be able to buy an extended warranty from Cat if I felt it was necessary. Does anyone have any comments about this engine.

Those engines are great, no problems whatsoever. I have one in my bulldozer for years. I tried to get them in my boat, when I repowered but they do not meet the new emmissions, so I bought 3196's instead.
