Having engine hesitations, a pulsing of the engine or power train. Seems to be more around 0-40 km and at about 80 km. With this hesitation comes heavier smoke until engine cleans up and runs smooth. It's 8*C here in the mornings the truck does not start very well also.

I have a 98 chevy 1 ton diesel and when it is cold it runs fine. But when it gets to running temp it starts jurking and running rough and sometimes stalling, but it starts right back up. When it is in traffic it dies then runs and forces me into the car in front of me almost if iI dont hold the brake tight. When im on he highway it stars jerking on and off but when I speed up and stay in the gas it runs fine and some days it does it and some it doesnt but here lately it been every day on the way to work. I purchased a new pmd and just plugged it in and the motor still remained to stall/run when idling. Also where is the oil senor on the motor and what would that have to do with it

still sounds like PMD, did you plug in the pmd not on a cooler ???
That can fry it in little time!!!
Stall is PMD or injection pump, not lift pump system.
OPS is located in the engine valley near the rear of the engine by the fuel filter.
now back to the pmd...
I suspect your PMD is bad, the PMD is the pump mounted driver and is the most common part to fail on the GM efi 6.5 Diesels, it fails usually due to heat and the poor engineering of locating it in the hot engine valley, that among other things contributes to PMD failures.
In most stalling cases of stalling, often the injection pump is blamed, but it I find like 99% of the time it is only the PMD that failed.
Once the PMD is damaged by heat it is no good and must be replaced.
Replacing the PMD in the original location will only solve the problem for a limited time as the location will contribute to repeated PMD failures.
To replace PMD in the original location requires a fair amount of labor, special tools and dealer specific equipment to reset timing etc.
However, there is an easier and better solution; The PDC (Pump Driver Cooler) from www.duramax.bizhosting.com is a remote mounting system complete with new PMD, cooler and a remote harness that allows mounting away from the hot engine, (no cutting, no splicing, it just PLUGS-IN, this is very as not to alter the vehicle wiring which would often result in problems on the 6.5)
The PDC Remote kit is the best and only lasting way to fix the PMD failure problem.
The PDC Remote kit is very easy to install, and no special tools, no adjustments, no settings and no trip to the dealer, the PDC simply plugs in and you mount it on the firewall.
I have tried and tested others 'copies' and none have the same research, development, testing and do not come close to the PDC's excellent track record. The PDC Remote kit is only available from www.duramax.bizhosting.com
PMD failure often results in a stalling condition that can be sudden and very dangerous, and I do not let my loved ones ride in any GM efi 6.5 Diesel vehicle that does not have the PDC Remote kit installed.

Sorry people didn't think anyone would get back asap. I have a 95 diesel. Having a brand new factory injector pump installed, to cure problems to find out later to have a waste gate problem. Cured that to create this hesitation, jerking motion at certain speeds and gearing (auto). Cold the smoke is whiteish blue, to warm jet black-brown. You mention PMD , the abbreviation is.

I have a 95 chevy diesel and I am having PMD symtoms. When i start the truck sometimes it will die and then be hard to start. When gonig down the road the engine sometimes misses and jerks. I have already put a new after market pmd on the truck and a new lift pump and oil sending unit. Someone has suggested my filter wire harness is bad.( the harness on top of the injection pump) What do you think?

tony,
was the aftermarket pmd a true remote mount on the firewall?
because the other coolers simply don;t help for long in fact they don't cool properly and the i have seen 1 on that junk cooler from NY fail a pmd in just a couple days!
jason,
the pmd is on the injection pump, to fix propely you need the PDC remote kit from www.duramax.bizhosting.com to avoid repeat pmd failures.
