I own an'83 ford ranger with a 2.2 diesel. I have found that these are very rare. I would like to know what make the engine is. I need new glowplugs and Ford Co. wants a fortune for a set. Also I might need to bypass the glowplug controller and would like to know the best way to do that.

I own a 1986 ranger diesel with a l4 2.3d and have the same problem, to much money for the glow plugs. The controler was bypassed and all plugs were shot! Better have a controler!

Guys....your 20 years to late they stopped production by the mid to late 80's! If your really want a small diesel truck your better off putting in a small yanmar / kubota type of motor in new condition. Try Burdens surplus center ...

They still make diesel rangers there just not sold in the U.S. Also the cheapest place i have found for glowplugs is in the LMC catalog they list them for 19 bucks a peice and the dealer was 50 a peice

I have an 86 Ranger turbo diesel 2.3L and am looking for the exhaust pipe that comes off the turbo charger. Does anyone know where I can find one?

I own 2 86 Diesel Ford Rangers.I drive one daily and I have customized my own propane injection.The propane realy increased the bottom end torque.The stock 2.3L has 86 horsepower and 135 pound-feet of torque.I also had glowplug failure and I got used glow plugs off a Dodge D-50.They also used the 2.3L Turbo Diesel.I am interested in purchasing any parts or trucks.
