I have a new 04 Duramax dually. I recorded 16.5 mpg on my first tank. The truck ran great. Next tank went to 14.6 then 14.1 mpg.
Now the truck smells like all the fuel is not being burned and my mileage is getting worse. I only have 3100 miles on the truck.
Anyone else have this problem or advice regarding what might be wrong?
I took it back to the dealership. "Everything tested out fine." they said.
Thanks.

is it smoking what are the injector balancing rated with scan tool has the dealer tried to ramp up the fuel presssure with the scan tool should be able to ramp it to 160 mpa and it should follow to at least 140 mpa if not sounds like injector problems and they are a big job and takes all day to rplace them and warranty only pays 7.1 hrs used to pay around 12 hrs but the factory knocked the time down because of so many injector failures so of course the tech dosent want to do it because they work on comission but maybe every thing is withen specs have it scaned and have the service manager or tech show you these readings the fuel could also be going into the engine oil from a cracked injector

Hi,
I suggest you leave it at the dealer, and refuse to make a payment until the situation is resolved. My duramax got 20 mpg the first tank and is getting smoother every day. It is pushing 21 mpg with 25K.
I suspect with a dually you might get a little less, mine is 2wd ls ext cab. But less than 17-18 for you is unacceptable unless you are at some extremely high altitude or something. Try a reputable dealer.
Good luck

Hi,
Ive been reading the posts and have been kicking around the idea of buying a new Duramax really only for the fuel milage.. You guys that are getting in the 20's mpg range are they 2 or 4wd,Crew cab,Dually and do they have a towing axle ratio different than the others?? I cant see spending 40k on a diesel truck that gets 12-15 mpg.
