99 ford f250 7.3 rough running on 4

Postby DaRacer624 » Tue Feb 23, 2010 8:12 am

I have a 99 ford f250 7.3,2 wheel drive manual 6 speed that seems to be running on one side of the motor,I've replaced the under valve cover wire harness and gasket, this happened about six month's ago with a engine lite came on,at that time I did the same as above replacing the wire harness and it ran fine until last sunday,it seems to kinda cut out and sputter and almost catch and run fine for a minute and then just fall off ? this is my everyday drive to work truck, the truck has 121,000 miles has new fuel filter and gets regular oil changes, lifetime. any suggestions would be great. thanks

I would be looking at the IDM, Injector Drive Module

On a 99 take the driver side inner fender down not out, from the outside of the truck if looking at the driverside tire it will be up in the fender to ur right. Depends on where u by them they range from $200-$500. Dont ever use anything other than Ford parts when doing valve covers and harnesses, I had a guy want to use the Dorman stuff because it was cheaper and that was exactally the out come, it run wose after we was done.

I called my local ford dealer and they quoted me a price of $800.00 to $1,000.00 I found some on line for $290.00 remanufactured I think ?,will this show up on the code's if I have them read ? I'm kinda poor and this is really making it hard. or is there a specific test that can be done to pin point it ? Thanks

Yes there are test they are extensive, basically checking all wiring and knowing that injectors are good, 99%of time IDM will knock out one side over just picking on one injector. Codes could show but not always. Where you from?
