2005 ford 6.0 hard start cold

Postby b4b4 » Wed Jan 06, 2010 10:39 am

ok new to this forum but have heard alot of good things about it. I have a 05 ford diesel pickup that will start fine if the block heater is plugged in. But it won't start below 30 degrees or so without being plugged in I know it's the glow plugs but how do I go about testing them? Thanks for your help.

To test glow plugs:
Pull wires off plugs, take ground end of test light and put to POSITIVE, put light up end of test light directally on end of glow plug if it lights it is good, if it does not light plug is bad.
Any questions email me.

That sounds good but in order to do that I have to pull the valve covers. I thought maybe there is a way to do it thru the valve cover wireing harness?

On 6.0 powerstrokes the glow plugs are located on the outside of the valve cover above the exhaust manifold.
