Diesel engine won't always start when warm

Please help somebody! I have had a problem with my Van for the past year, and the problem seems to be getting worse. It's a 2.5L turbo diesel Citroen relay and has a starting problem. Basically it has always started from cold, but if you try and start it when the engine is warmed up you stand about a 50:50 chance of it starting. When it fails to start you have to wait about 30 minutes (depending on the weather?) for it to cool down and then it will start. This becomes very irritating when you are trying to make a getaway from a traffic warden, at a petrol station or as I found out on my last summer holiday (I convert the van into a camper to go on holiday) end up being stuck when beckoned onto the ferry on the family holiday.
One mechanic reckons its the diesel injector pump and another thinks its something to do with the immobilizer circuit (he has noticed the yellow key symbol is lit on the dashboard while the van is in not starting mode.
I carry a big container of water to cool the pump which seems to help a little.
One mechanic says take the pump off and recondition at vast expense and the other says its the immobilizer circuit, there's no red key or code card so I will have to wait a month for the relevant code from Citroen and for all I know this might not even be the problem?
I would really appreciate your help. I was hoping to have this sorted by now and this years summer holiday is in jeopardy or at least driving far away is not possible.
Thanks

Nick
