Old kerosene

Postby cruzahome » Fri Jul 17, 2009 11:46 am

I have 30 gallons of kerosene that has been stored for three years in 5 gallon plastic jerry cans on my boat (inside, out of the sun). It still looks clear. I want to use it for the boat's "Dickinson style" diesel heater. I was thinking of mixing it 50/50 with new #2 diesel. Is fuel this old inherently "bad"? My concern is whether it might clog up the heater's carburator. Any advice would be appreciated. It seems wasteful to through it away if it is still useable.

The biggest problem is water and algae. If it looks good, use it.
