Cat 3208 overheating

Cat 3208 overheating

Postby jcd » Sat Feb 21, 2009 11:33 pm

I have a 3208T in a 38' boat. Starts and runs real well - no white or blace smoke, pulls full revs.
At 2000rpm it runs at 180deg but at 2850rpm I get 210deg and a boilover. Engine has 2950hrs. Cylinder heads, sea water pump, main heat exchanger, engine oil heat exchanger all overhauled.
I'm thinking maybe circulating pump problem. Has anyone had overheating experience with this motor.

read my post of Dec. 16th, 2008,,,where is the coolant going. Member "Heavy Duty" was right on track when he suggested that I check the water pump and belt. Turned out I had a shredded water pump belt and couldn't see it due to the protective shroud over the pullys. Once I removed the shroud I found not only the broken belt but also a badly worn alternator. With the belt replaced my overheating/boil over problems ended.
Good luck,
Bill
