99 N14 PLUS ??

Postby acol19 » Sat Oct 14, 2006 12:10 am

Got a 99 international 9200 with a n14 plus in it with approx 330000 miles on it. For sum reason its hard starting as hell...takes maybe 15 secs for it to fire up and then sputters and dies after a bout 10 secs...try it again and it does the same thing and finally stays running...once its running it runs fine other than a few low rpm surges...weve replaced the fuel shutoff solenoid or whatever its called....supposedly had a few small leaks in the fuel lines which were fixed...when i changed the fuel filter it was only half full and has been this way at least 2 times when ive changed it...im thinking fuel pump but was wanting some more input b4 i drop the cash..any help is appreciated

It's getting air in the system somewhere.

Check the check valve for the return line as well.

Check the cooling plate, behind the ECM. They have boss o-rings on the fittings going into and out of the cooling plate. Those are know to start leaking and causing it to lose it's prime / suck air.

With the problems you are describing, it sounds as though it's losing it's prime.

Could be a fuel pump but I tend to think it's going to be a line or a check valve. Especially if it runs ok going down the road.

That fuel pump is $1k plus. So unless you have money to burn, you better make sure.
