Cat 3208 Skips

Postby bluebird60 » Wed Jul 15, 2009 9:31 pm

On recent 300 mile trip in Bluebird Motorcoach with Cat 3208 non-turbo 210 hp it ran fine to destination. Sat parked for 3 days. On way home, it developed a skip or miss and lost horsepower. Could it be clogged filter? or valve has gotten too tight? Any other ideas? It runs just like a gas engine car with a fouled out plug.

I would start with the fuel filter first if it has been a while espeacially. Check the air filter too. Also could be a lift pump going south.

Thanks for reply. I have a new air filter in the motor home and I recently added a 4" intake hole to the breather to give it more air. I'll try some additive to the fuel. I'm not familiar with the term lift pump - are you referring to the hydraulic lifters? or another pump? Also - the motorhome sits for a two or 3 months between trips with about a 1/2 tank of fuel. Someone told me that mold could build up in the tank - do you have any thoughts about that?

The lift pump is what get the fuel from the tank to the injection pump. If it goes bad it will have a hard time running.
The new fuel that is out there yes this will happen. I use PowerServie's Biocide. We havent had any problems yet.

HI Mike

Sorry that this has nothing to do with your question, but as I saw that you are a Wanderlodge owner and I soon to be one thought I would ask you for some help getting into a fourm.... I haven't been able to figure out how to post a question about a 3208. I not the very computer literate, could you steer me in the right direction?
